Burns DVDs not Coasters, (What's this?) Bought this 3 months ago. Pulled out the dead drive, put this one in, rebooted, started burning. Burns well. Have had no problems burning to Ritech Ridata DVD-R. I would buy another one.
Hmmmm...., (What's this?) Insofar that I can tell, it's a good DVD burner.

The problem is that if you are a little green about DVD burners (like your computer has never had one before), you may realize after buying it that the software it comes with, Nero 8 Essentials, is not enough. Nero 8 Essentials by itself will not allow you to watch DVD's on your computer or a host of other things. I wound up buying the full version Nero 9 ($50 with discount) to make up for the shortfall.

quality control issues, (What's this?) Sorry to say, I had to return this burner. The disk tray wouldn't eject more than an inch. Excessive force would be necessary to pry it open enough to load a disk. A friend of mine who bought the same unit had the same problem. A bad batch, perhaps.

dvd drive slot-load...i love it, The optical drive on my 1 yr-old desktop quite literally gave up on me -- it just wouldn't read my CDs and DVDs anymore, let alone burn and do my back ups. And so I asked my brother for help in replacing the optical drive. While we we're picking out what drives to order from Amazon, I told my brother "Wouldn't it be nice to have one of those drives that didn't have trays on my desktop?"

He told me that they were called Slot Loading drives. We were afraid that they were not designed for desktops because I frequently saw them on my friends' laptops. After a bit of research, we finally came to the DIGISTOR website -- [...] -- and found that they had some for desktops. I ordered them off Amazon and now I've had them for at least 2 months now.

It's been working wonderfully -- it reads all my CDs and DVDs, and burns my back ups as well. It's a speedy drive, I didn't have to wait as much as with my old DVD burner. My brother told me to be careful with the slot load mechanism, as there was no "emergency eject" hole on this one, but so far, no problems with it at all. I'm very satisfied with the product.
It gets the Job Done for a lot of Money, This is a laptop drive mounted in a half height, 5.25" adapter. I use it with a Linux machine (Debian Lenny) and find it reasonably fast and quiet. It mounts near the top of the 5.25" adapter, so consequently, the slot sits very high when compared to conventional DVD burners.

The price is $30 more than conventional DVD burners, a difference not justified by its performance.

Excellent Drive For The Price, A Kid's Review
I Purchased this drive at Stapels, because i needed a low-cost DVD Burner. I got a Computer for christmas, upgraded the hard drive, and added this DVD Burner. Right now I only have two drives in my computer, one sitting there, not powered, not connected to my PC, because i removed the pin connector thing. I haven't tried to burn anything with it yet, but it read Nero 6 and the other bundled software fine. But it is REALLY loud. The disc must be going at 500+ RPMs. Sometimes i could hear it, faintly, through a 6-inch-thick wall. But overall it seems like a good drive. If anyone could put up a pic of the back of the drive, showing a stock pin connection setup, it would be appreachated.

So so, I got this is ThxGvg Sale for 19.99. I dont know if it is that worth at all also, I tried to burn a Audio CD of a 192Kbps Quality songs, it screwed them all. I thought it was my songs, but re made the cD on my prev ext CD burner, they come grt. but I copied a DVD, came out grt.
Great for reading flawed discs, I don't use this drive for burning discs, I use more reliable brands like Pioneer. So why do I use it and like it? It's made by BTC, and BTC drives are great at reading iffy discs. If you want a back-up drive for such a purpose or are building a DVD duplicator, it's great for that purpose. Just use a Pioneer to burn.
PLEASE DON"T BUY, Earlier, the IOMAGIC used to be rebagged Benq dw1620. Now BTC. Horrible quality. It's worth spending $10 more and buy either NEC, BENQ, PLEXTOR 740a or atleast you know what you are buying. This is just not worth even spending $20.
IOMagic DVD Drive, (What's this?) This is my second IOMagic DVD Drive of the same type. The first I could not find the information needed to take it back or get it fixed -- it just would not power on anymore, for some reason I think it was holding a charge but I am not all that electrically savvy to prove it, I cannot even find it anymore. I was delighted with its performance when it was working as I am with this one -- it loads a Windows 7 Install DVD when my old Creative DVD (2x?) drive couldn't (has to do with the recorded speed I believe). The packaging was worn when I received it and it appeared that the drive was already opened which I reported to the seller, but I needed the drive badly so I accepted everything. I cannot even find on the IOMagic website, the support for it, nor can I use the registration link I believe. I believe it loads CDs and DVDs other drives won't, but I can't account each one since I just loaded them and paid no attention to detail.

Not what is pictured it is a different drive, (What's this?) The drive that is pictured on the website is very misleading it shows a Liteon drive
with the Smart Erase feature. The drive you will receive has no Smart Erase feature
that is the main reason why I bought the drive in the first place. Yeah the drive has
the same numbers IHAS 124-04 but you will receive the Y version instead of the A version
which has the Smart Erase function. I'm going to see if I can return the drive for a full
refund since it is not what is pictured and the drive that I ordered in the first place.
This is the B revision. Works perfectly for XDG3 XBox 360 backups!, (What's this?) This drive was a B revision manufactured in August 2011. After installing the Burner Max firmware this drive handled burning of XDG3 backup discs flawlessly.

I just got this DVD writer, flashed with LT Max burner went really smooth. actually I ordered same from ebay UK but it was really crap and it didn't work at all and i had to return it. I ordered one for myself my dad and a friend of mine bought one as well. They all work perfectly. Note, if your looking for smart erase, this drive doesn't have it. Also note, smart erase destroys your disc, it does not make it so you can rewrite data to the disc. If you werep looking at this but was turned away by the reviews, buy it.

Disappointment, (What's this?) I was very disappointed with this product. When I plugged it in to my PC it overloaded the USB power and when I tried to buy a power supply from Targus, I was told that they no longer supplied them and I had to buy one from a third party source at twice the price plus an exorbitant shipping fee. Now it sometimes works and sometime does not.

Great Product!, (What's this?) I've had this product for a while it has been nothing but greatness! i needed it for my netbook and it has preformed wonderfully. The only problem was when i first plugged it into my usb port and i pushed the button to open it, it didn't open up right away and i thought it was broken but really my computer was just recognizing the new equipment and wouldn't allow it to open until it was scanned and all that jazz. In all this is a great product i have watch countless dvd's and stripped many cd's with it.

works great for tablet pc's with no cd/dvd, (What's this?) I've had this for a few years and bought because my Toshiba tablet did not have a cd/dvd drive. It was one of the few drives that was self powered from USB. There is no way I could use this on a plane if I had to plug it in! It used very little battery life. Works fast and dependable. Very durable also. It's been to all 50 states with me and through TSA many many times. Never skips a beat! However, it is not a burner - reader only.

I had an older laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad) running Windows XP, and for this computer, it would read CD's about 20-30% of the time. The rest of the CD's, the Targus would make some initial noise, then stop. Tried unplugging and replugging the Targus with the same results. Often times, I'd have to go to a computer at work to extract files off a CD, then load them onto a flash drive and use the flash drive to download files onto my computer, thanks to the Targus' failure to read CD's.
Not compatible with Windows 7, (What's this?) This is a nice external drive and works well with Windows XP or Vista. However, it does NOT work with Windows 7. If you have a computer using Windows 7 or if you plan to upgrade to Windows 7 then this is not the drive for you.

Very disappointed, I purchased this from TigerDirect thru Amazon. It arrived in a clear plastic case, no box, no label, no instructions and no software. I contacted TigerDirect, was told it doesn't come with the software needed to run it, to contact LiteOn. A month and 6 e-mails later and my only option is to pay $30 for WinZip to download drivers for a $25 DVD burner.
No mention of this in product description. Also learned it's not compatible with iTunes.

I bought this dvd burner because it was cheap.
It is a great drive, reads/writes great.
The only down side is more for hardcore users who burn a lot at one time and use the "verify" option.
For some reason this drives reads very slow as in 2-4x this isn't bad for normal use. But is your using multiple burners and are going to burn multiple dvd's then will get about 2 1/2 dvd's in the time this one completes one dvd.Again this is only effected during the read/verify.
