I Purchased this drive at Stapels, because i needed a low-cost DVD Burner. I got a Computer for christmas, upgraded the hard drive, and added this DVD Burner. Right now I only have two drives in my computer, one sitting there, not powered, not connected to my PC, because i removed the pin connector thing. I haven't tried to burn anything with it yet, but it read Nero 6 and the other bundled software fine. But it is REALLY loud. The disc must be going at 500+ RPMs. Sometimes i could hear it, faintly, through a 6-inch-thick wall. But overall it seems like a good drive. If anyone could put up a pic of the back of the drive, showing a stock pin connection setup, it would be appreachated.
WARNING:AS WITH ANY DVD DRIVE,DO NOT REMOVE MASTER/SLAVE PINS CONNECTOR THING, IF THERE ARE TWO DRIVES HOOKED UP TO THE SAME CABLE WITH NO PIN CONNECTORS,THE COMPUTER WILL NOT BOOT.
So so, I got this is ThxGvg Sale for 19.99. I dont know if it is that worth at all also, I tried to burn a Audio CD of a 192Kbps Quality songs, it screwed them all. I thought it was my songs, but re made the cD on my prev ext CD burner, they come grt. but I copied a DVD, came out grt.
Great for reading flawed discs, I don't use this drive for burning discs, I use more reliable brands like Pioneer. So why do I use it and like it? It's made by BTC, and BTC drives are great at reading iffy discs. If you want a back-up drive for such a purpose or are building a DVD duplicator, it's great for that purpose. Just use a Pioneer to burn.
PLEASE DON"T BUY, Earlier, the IOMAGIC used to be rebagged Benq dw1620. Now BTC. Horrible quality. It's worth spending $10 more and buy either NEC, BENQ, PLEXTOR 740a or atleast you know what you are buying. This is just not worth even spending $20.
IOMagic DVD Drive, (What's this?) This is my second IOMagic DVD Drive of the same type. The first I could not find the information needed to take it back or get it fixed -- it just would not power on anymore, for some reason I think it was holding a charge but I am not all that electrically savvy to prove it, I cannot even find it anymore. I was delighted with its performance when it was working as I am with this one -- it loads a Windows 7 Install DVD when my old Creative DVD (2x?) drive couldn't (has to do with the recorded speed I believe). The packaging was worn when I received it and it appeared that the drive was already opened which I reported to the seller, but I needed the drive badly so I accepted everything. I cannot even find on the IOMagic website, the support for it, nor can I use the registration link I believe. I believe it loads CDs and DVDs other drives won't, but I can't account each one since I just loaded them and paid no attention to detail.
