great replacement, (What's this?) Great replacement DVD/RW for IDE interface. I have an external case for an IDE drive and the writer went bad, and this drive has been a flawless replacement, plug and play. I was glad I could still get it with IDE since my motherboard SATA ports are all used. It will likely outlast my desktop computer at this point.
Only bad point, drive description states it comes with "Software" but it arrived with nothing but the drive itself and the order slip. I didn't need the software so I didn't complain.
Very good burner!, (What's this?) This CD/DVD burner works great. I did have trouble with the software.I had to use a different DVD burning program. But this burner burns fast and without a lot of noise. I bought two and very well pleased with my purchase.
DVD Burner, (What's this?) This burner was purchased to replace a defective one.
Good product, (What's this?) I have an older computer so when my DVD burner died I had very few options with which to replace it, and nothing locally available since it's got an IDE interface. So this item saved me from having to buy an entirely new computer just because the drive failed. Now I can get another several years out of this already old computer.
Perfect Replacement Drive, (What's this?) I purchased this "used-like new" LG Electronics GH22NP20 from Power Optical through Amazon for under $25, including shipping. It arrived by Priority Mail in two days. I bought this to replace a worn out drive in an older PowerMac G4. Installation was quick and easy. The Mac immediately recognized the drive.
not a long term device, (What's this?) I bought the burner on april 20, 2010, it is now april 24, 2011 (less then a year of ownership considering ship time) and the burner is dying out. the last DVD I tried to burn (about 2 weeks ago) became a coaster. It seems that now, the first CD /DVD I burn is fine, but if I try to burn more then 1 CD/DVD, it does not burn right and makes the 2nd a coaster. I tried ripping a few CD's to MP3's and started having trouble on the 5th CD. They were fairly short CD's too. This happened to the last 2 CD's I tried to rip to MP3's. My other ROM had no problem ripping them and the CD's were brand new so it has to be this burner going bad.
On a Positive note, when it did work, it worked well. The ROM is quiet and quick. There was not a lot of lag time starting it up like with some ROM's. I have used many types of blank media and have had no trouble burning to any of them.
I am a light to moderate user. I probably burn an average of 1 CD or DVD a week (averaging it out through the year). I mainly use my regular ROM, not the burner, for reading CD's and DVD's, so I rarely use the burner to read disks and there was not a lot of use out of it. For this type of use, It should have lasted longer then a year.
For the price I paid, It is not worth sending back if the warranty is still good because it would cost me half what I paid for it.
Replacement DVD player/recorder., (What's this?) The LG Electronics DVD+/-RW was priced well, came quickly and and works well. It does the job I need done and hasn't let me down.
So easy to install even someone who isn't mechanical can do it, (What's this?) I have had this product for about a month now and am totally delighted with it. First of all installation was super easy. I was impressed by the fact that even someone not very mechanically minded could do it. It simple. Disconnect your old burner and pop this one in. Windows XP home version recognizes it immediately and its ready to go. In low burning speeds (I burn at 4x) it is totally quiet. At higher speeds it is a bit noisey but then that doesnt apply to me. Excellent DVD burner so far.
Typical Combo, (What's this?) This is just a typical DVD/CD RW combo drive. It was received in less than a week and I installed without any issue.
